Salou
King Jaume I fiesta, medieval market

Between the 3th and 10th of September, this commemorative festival of Salou is celebrated. A festival that memorizes the events which happened in the harbor of Salou when King Jaume I set sail with his fleet to conquer Majorca in 1229. There are several activities such as a medieval procession of carriages and people dressed as soldiers, noblemen and King Jaume I himself. There is also a medieval market with salesmen of various artisanal specialties in the old part of Salou. Important are also several processions and religious ceremonies.

New: Salou on wheels, Segway excursion

Salou has a new activity on offer: Salou on Wheels. With the help of a Segway (see photo) you can explore Salou with one of the three touristic routes. The Segway is a two-wheeled, self-balancing electric vehicle which is a fun good and environmental healthy way of travelling around. Because users lean forward to go forward, lean back to go backward, and turn by using a handlebar, leaning it left or right, the Segway is a fun way of travelling around Salou. Route 1 takes you from one fountain to the other fountain on the main promenade Jaume I. On the way you will see Salou s most beautiful Modernism houses, the harbor and the green zone. Route 2 is the longest and most cultural route with its 9 km and 2 hours of driving. The Jaume I monument, Chalet Bonet, Santa Maria church, Torre Vella are some of the highlights during this tour. Route 3 is known as the greenest route since its 7 km and 1.5 hours driving will take you to the new promenade of the Platja Llarga, the Mirador de of Salou with its beautiful panoramic views and the Masia Catalana art fair market. You can find Salou on Wheels next to the magic fountain in the Calle Virgen del Pilar. Route 1 will cost you 20euro, route 2: 33euro and route 3: 29euro, lessons, equipment and professional guide included.

La Pineda/Costa Dorada
New: Aquum Spa and Club in La Pineda

In La Pineda they recently opened the biggest Spa from Catalunya and the first Wellness resort form the Costa Dorada. Aquum Spa & Club is situated in the Estival Park resort and was born with the idea to offer a new free time and healthy pastime for the whole family. Aquum has nine swimming pools with different water temperatures and offers many themed showers, saunas, steam baths, ice cabins and Neverland, the first children spa of Spain. The Aquum Club is an exclusive area on the first floor and its 700 m2 offers swimming pools with different water temperatures, relaxing rooms, aromatic therapy rooms and a resting room. Aquum Spa & Club is open every day form 10 AM till 10 PM. Prices start for 3 hrs. at 22 euro for the Spa and 30 euro for Spa and the exclusive Club.

Vila Seca/Salou
Olzina Center, the new shopping center of Salou

If everything goes well this summer you can go shopping in the brand new shopping center of Salou, Olzina Center. This will be the first shopping center in the area (besides Parc Central in Tarragona) and will only be 10 min away from the center of Salou. The structure itself is situated in Vila Seca, a neighboring town of Salou but just on the frontier between these two, at the car park entrance to Port Aventura. There will be a massive Oscar cinema (hopefully with films in English as well), a bowling lane area, several bars, restaurants and fast food businesses. On the main floor a brand new Decathlon (sports wear) will open its doors and of course there will be more clothing shops represented in the main building.

Port Aventura opens 3 new golf courses near Salou

Port Aventura will open three Golf courses in summer 2008. Perfect to expert and junior golf players. Designed by Greg Norman and by Alfonso Viador and Magí Sardà, with 200 hectares and five playing ways. Port Aventura Golf is prepared to play international competitions. The north course is situated in the boundaries of the Sèquia Major, space of natural interest at The Pineda Platja. With more than 6100 meters of length and a par 71 it contains water obstacles with bunkers and humid natural zones. The center course is situated in the highest areas near to Port Aventura Park from which some emblematic attractions can be spied such as the Dragon Khan or the Hurakan Condor. It preserves the former carob-trees and olive trees of the zone and even contains elements found in the archaeological excavations and totally restored. With 9 holes par 35 it makes a suitable field for any type of player. The south course is the nearest to Salou's metropolitan area. Placed in the surroundings of the Cap Salou or surrounded with a great extension of white pine, it shelters big suitable distances for high-level competitions but also for new players. It possesses in addition a field of practices, two putting-green and a chipping-green nailed in the environment of the Clubhouse. Read more about the new golf courses in our golf special.

Museum Gaudi Centre Reus has opened

Finally its open: The Gaudi Centre in Reus where you live the experience of genius. This 5 story building hosts the city's newest museum which is dedicated to its famous inhabitant, Antonio Gaudi, who was born in this city. Salou
New magic fountains in Salou

Visitors of Salou can now enjoy the spectacular water show the new fountains at the end of the main promenade Jaime I have to offer. The newly constructed fountains can be found from the middle of the promenade, near the bus station, till the end near Salou's harbor. Aside from the spectacular water combinations of the different fountains and the enormous geyser, the refreshing water maze is a must to do walkthrough. All fountains have colorful light effects and on fixed times there are special shows which include music, video and laser light presentations in the huge water tank near the harbor. In Spanish they are called "fonts ornamentals cibernetiques" and they have 1100 water pumps, a hydraulic power supply of 250 CV, 500 underwater lights and 15000 watt in sound. Apart from all of this there is a powerful laser light show and video presentation, of course in sync with the fountains.
